Sonnhild Kestler was born 1963 in Germany and grew up in Zurich, Switzerland. She made a degree as a textile designer at the arts and crafts high school in Zurich. 1988 she founded her own manufacture for screen printing by hand. Since than she developes print designs for shawls, scarves, shirts, clothes and accessories. In her collection there are also terry towels, cotton and woolen textiles with her own design – the production of this items are outsourced.

An important inspiration for Sonnhild Kestlers work are traditional arts and crafts work everywhere in the world, especially in the Asian and Arab area. This influence flows into her individual 'handwriting'. Still all her business is a 'one woman manufacture'. There are cooperations with a family-run screen printing company in Como, Italy and with embroidery and handweaving factories in India and with women in Turkey which do some crochet work.
